Why Twitter

This morning I had a message from a connection on Linkedin.  The message asked why I am Twittering and wondered if I thought Twitter is useful.  Great question!  I have just started using Twitter in the last couple of days, so do not really know how useful Twitter will be to my business, Internet marketing or social network.

One of the immediate benefits I have found to using Twitter that you can get link juice.  I use Google Alerts to find out who is linking to me or talking about something I write.  Every day I receive a Google Alert on my name, business name and blog names.  This morning I received a Google Alert showing a link on Twitter with my name and the keyword “social networking.”  A site the size of Twitter that gives off link juice can not but help in building an online business.  It is as simple as that.

This does bring up a good point though.  If you are useing Twitter and you constantly write like you are instant messaging, you are missing out on valuable link juice.  If you are in the businesss of real estate in Seattle and never use those keywords in your Twittering, you will not be indexed with them.  For example instead of Twittering “Showing a client a cute little home in Redmond this afternoon”  You Twitter, “Real Estate booming in Redmond, showing a cute Redmond home”  You just told everyone what you are doing and used valuable keywords.

Remember to use the keywords that are valuable to your business and keep on Twittering!
